Plastering in Melbourne
Plaster is the skin of a room, and it shows every shortcut. Whether it is a water-stained ceiling, a doorway that has been moved, or a full renovation, flat walls and crisp cornices come from a plasterer who takes setting and sanding seriously.
Melbourne also has a lot of older solid-plaster and ornate ceilings. If your home has heritage cornices or ceiling roses, say so: patching those is a different skill from standing plasterboard.

Common questions
Plastering questions, answered straight
My ceiling is sagging. Is that urgent?
Treat it seriously. A sagging plaster ceiling, especially with a water stain or a visible bow, can come down without much warning. Keep people out of the room and get quotes marked as urgent, with photos.
Can water-stained plaster just be painted over?
Only after the leak is fixed and the plaster is dry and sound. Stains need a sealer before paint or they bleed through. If the plaster is soft or bubbling, the section should be cut out and replaced.
What finish level should I ask for?
For walls that will take gloss paint or strong side light, ask about a higher finish level with a skim coat. Standard finish is fine for most rooms. It is worth a sentence in your job description if you are fussy about flatness.
Do plasterers remove the old plaster?
Quotes can include strip-out or start from a cleared frame. Say which you need. Removal of old lath and plaster is messy and affects price, so it needs to be in the scope up front.
